Jean Wins Players’ Cup

Congratulations to Jean Matthews who won the Players’ Cup for 2009. Fellow members of the Ottershaw Players voted for her to receive the annual honour at the AGM, held in September.

Since Jean has been awarded with the Cup, the plinth is now full. A new cup will be purchased but do you know anyone who might be willing to sponsor the new award? Please contact Matthew Horton if you can help.

Annual General Meeting 2009

This year the AGM will be held on 21st September 2009 at Brook Hall, starting at 8pm. You will receive official notification and your nomination forms for new members of the committee and for the Players Cup soon.

The Players Cup is voted for by the members and awarded, at the AGM, to the person or people who have made the most valuable contribution to the group during the previous year.

2008 AGM

A reminder that annual subscriptions became due at the AGM last month, so if you haven’t paid-up yet, please do so ASAP. Cheques to the Treasurer, please.

We have three new committee members elected this year, Claire White-Aldworth, Mark Holton and Phil Pile. We welcome them all onto the committee and are sure they will make a great contribution to the Players.

Also, at the AGM the Players’ Cup was awarded, according to the votes of the membership. This year the trophy was awarded to Lyn Mison for her excellent stage management skills which she has displayed since joining the group a few years ago. Hearty congratulations on a well-deserved win.

AGM 2007

AGM Notices sent out during August failed to attract a quorum of 20 members on 10 September and the Ottershaw Players’ AGM was abandoned. We had only 15 members (of 64) in attendance, with a further 14 offering apologies. In accordance with the terms of the constitution, decisions on any resolutions will now be made by your committee—this includes voting on committee nominations (see also).

The Chairman gave a resumé of the Players’ year and the Treasurer advised that our audited accounts showed a balance of £6,158.70 on hand at the end of the financial year. Stewart Mison gave a report on behalf of WDA which gave an indication of impending changes at The Rhoda McGaw, specifically the possible creation of an independent stage door, the need to appoint fire wardens and the absolute requirement to quit the theatre area by 11pm.

The Players’ Cup was awarded to Claire White-Aldworth for her total reliability and skill in making or acquiring props of an exceptionally high standard. Congratulations to her for winning and good luck to her and David for their wedding later this month.

The Ottershaw Players’ belongs to its membership – not just those who administer the group at Committee meetings. Next year’s AGM advice will contain details of the attendance requirements and, hopefully, more members will feel it appropriate to exercise their democratic right to be more involved in the running of the group.
