This award, presented in memory of Terry Fry’s late wife, is presented to the young member of the Players who is considered to have made the best contribution to the group in the past year. This year, the committee were impressed at the acting skills, concentration and dedication of both girls during rehearsals and performances of Oliver Twist and so decided to make this year’s award a joint one.

Julia Stevens took home the Best Actress trophy, a well-deserved award which adjudicator Mike Kaiser gave for Jules’ controlled and moving performance as Dawn in The Universal Language.

The team also won the Mary Fitzhugh Award for Comedy for a performance which Mike Kaiser described as being “one of the funniest I have ever seen”.  This was definitely a proud moment for all concerned as Mary was such a stalwart member of The Players, as well as being a leading light of the Spelthorne festival and the Riverside Arts Centre.

Alongside the wins were nominations for Graham Collier as Best Actor, and for the whole team in the Technical Merit award.

The competition was very tough, with Runnymede Drama Group swept the board with 7 out of the 16 awards.  But the Handley-Jones Cup for Best Supporting Actor went to our very own Graham Collier as Don.

The Players also received nominations in four other categories: Best Director (Peter Moore), Best Supporting Actor (Bill Jackson), Best Supporting Actress (Julia Stevens) and Technical Excellence.

We have three new committee members elected this year, Claire White-Aldworth, Mark Holton and Phil Pile. We welcome them all onto the committee and are sure they will make a great contribution to the Players.

Also, at the AGM the Players’ Cup was awarded, according to the votes of the membership. This year the trophy was awarded to Lyn Mison for her excellent stage management skills which she has displayed since joining the group a few years ago.  Hearty congratulations on a well-deserved win.

This honour is the third NODA award that the Players have won since joining NODA in 2004; following the awards for A Christmas Carol in 2005 and The Wind In The WIllows in 2007.

Congratulations to all the cast and crew for yet another memorable production.
