And Then There Were None – Auditions!

We are pleased to announce that auditions will be held for our Summer Production on the following dates:

Sunday March 7th – 7.30pm at Brook Hall

Thursday March 11th – 7.30pm at New Haw Community Centre (in small hall at the side of the main building)

If you would like to audition but cannot make either of these dates, please contact Claire White-Aldworth (propsbyclaire@btinternet.com)

All are welcome, so please come and try out for what promises to be another excellent production. Further information will be available shortly on the And Then There Were None production page.

Summer 2010 Production

Ottershaw Players are pleased to announce their Summer Production at the Rhoda McGaw Theatre, Woking will be a play by Agatha Christie, And Then There Were None. This will be directed by Claire White-Aldworth and performances will be from June 2nd – 5th.

There will be a read through on Monday February 8th at The Castle Pub, Ottershaw at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

Information regarding auditions will follow shortly, so please watch this space.

Sue Fry Cup 2009

Congratulations to Sorcha Breslin, who recently won the Sue Fry Cup for 2009.

This award, presented in memory of Terry Fry’s late wife, is presented to the young member of the Players who is considered to have made the best contribution to the group in the past year. This year, the committee were impressed with the way Sorcha committed herself to a difficult part in Sparkleshark and gave her all in every rehearsal. She was supportive to all the cast and helped motivate everyone.

Farrago 2010

Farrago Time is nearly upon us…. So get your pun and innuendo hats on! This year we are doing a spoof on James Bond called, PUSSIES GALORE!

The read through and auditions will take place on Sunday 17^th January from 7.30 pm in Brook Hall.

Rehearsals will start the following week. Rehearsal venues will be announced at the read through. Tuesdays are looking difficult in terms of venue hire so we may need to rethink the midweek night, possibly moving to a Wednesday, taking into account commitments to other shows.

If you can’t make the read through / auditions please contact Matthew Horton as it is likely that you can still be cast or be in the chorus.

Christmas Party 2009

After last year’s successful event, this year’s Christmas party will again be held at The Sovereigns pub in Woking, on Tuesday December 22nd, from 7pm. Iain Bowman, the landlord, has again promised to lay on a feast fit for kings, in return for a spot of carol singing.

Tom’s Midnight Garden

Rehearsals are well underway for our forthcoming Christmas production at The Rhoda McGaw Theatre , Tom’s Midnight Garden. It is all coming together and promises to be another great show for Ottershaw Players.

Spelthorne Festival Results

Another hugely successful festival for Ottershaw Players, with our Youth Production Sparkleshark winning the Under 16 Youth award trophy. Well done to all the cast, Clare and Mark for their direction and to David and Claire for their set, which got favourable comments at both festivals.

Nominations were also received in the following categories:

Most promising youth player – Grace Mandeville & James Cochrane (Sparkleshark)

Stage Presentation – Blue Remembered Hills & Sparkleshark

Mary Fitzhugh Award for comedy – Sandy Hurle (BRH)

Best Actress – Melanie Brenchley (BRH)

Best Actor – Graham Botterill (BRH)

Congratulations go to everyone involved in both of these productions, a lot of hard work went into producing two excellent plays.

Woking Drama Festival Results

Congratulations to everyone involved with Blue Remembered Hills and our Youth production Sparkleshark in what turned out to be a very competitive festival. Ottershaw Players acquitted themselves extremely well in a festival of very high standards. In a field of 20 entries, BRH finished 7th overall (improving on last years points total). Sparkleshark were 12th.

Huge congratulations go to Graham Botterill for winning the Handley-Jones cup for best supporting actor for his part in Blue Remembered Hills as Donald Duck.

The players also received nominations in the following categories:

Lighting – Blue Remembered Hills

Technical Excellence – Blue Remembered Hilks & Sparkleshark

Best Supporting Actress – Melanie Brenchley & Julia Stevens (BRH)

Best Actor – Sandy Hurle (BRH)

Youth Award – Sparkleshark

Jean Wins Players’ Cup

Congratulations to Jean Matthews who won the Players’ Cup for 2009. Fellow members of the Ottershaw Players voted for her to receive the annual honour at the AGM, held in September.

Since Jean has been awarded with the Cup, the plinth is now full. A new cup will be purchased but do you know anyone who might be willing to sponsor the new award? Please contact Matthew Horton if you can help.
